LAMP Publication Project: Sagrado Corazón Montemayor Preschool

For Paula A. Serna, founder of the lighting studio DEDÓS, “lighting is the celebration of good architecture.” Even during her early years as an architecture student, and later throughout her specialization in the Master’s Degree in Lighting Design at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, she was deeply interested in how light could transform the perception of spaces and, consequently, the way people experience them.
This motivation has accompanied Paula throughout her professional journey and evolution, and it became one of the driving forces behind the fundamental objectives established for the lighting design of the Sagrado Corazón Montemayor Preschool. The project aims to fulfill both the functional and emotional needs of the children, who attend a space that must foster learning, development, stimulation, and play, while also considering the feelings of the broader community involved in this educational environment: families and teachers.
On a conceptual level, synesthesia served as a generative idea that shaped many of the lighting strategies within the project. In its early stages, Paula explored questions such as: Can a scent be yellow? Can a color make us feel cold? Ultimately, the intention was to develop a lighting approach capable of stimulating the senses through light.
